Interior Design Advice – What The Pros Know & You Can Too
Wouldn’t you love to know how the pros do it? Does it seem like no matter how hard you try and how easy the task seemed to be that your decorating always needs some interior design advice? You are not alone. Read on discover some key nuggets to interior design.
The trick of what the pros do is blending color. Each color adds a new layer that enhances the room. Three or four layers creates the perfect color balance and the rest is rather trivial.
Here are some ideas to do just that:
- If you dare to go bold then select a nice shade of red and white paint. This is for a no fail look. Add only touches or splashes of gold and or black as accents. Paint the walls red and all of the trim and woodwork in white. Go ahead and add the gold and black accents but make sure that you have neutral colored furniture.
- If you are into a more traditional look then this one is for you. The key is to blend white and antiques together in the same room. Lay a neutral colored rug for added texture and throw some fringed pillows on the couch. Add accents that have a touch of gold to them. Select a theme and incorporate it into your knick knacks, art work, and throw pillows.
- The contemporary look is one that many like because it is cozy. For this look add neutral textures and colors. Robust moldings with thick mantels are an excellent touch. Be sure to add recessed lighting instead of bulky fixtures in the ceiling. Finish the room off with curtains that frame the windows.
- Want a look that is chic and sophisticated, then here are some tips. Look for a perfect balance by placing only one abstract painting on each wall so you do not get that overwhelming appearance. Look for a neutral area rug, geometric shapes are very nice. For lighting consider cable lights and floor lamps. This mix works best with contemporary furniture.
- When planning to place the furniture start with creating a focal point. The focal point could be a living room window, a fireplace, something that draws you into the room. Stay away from the old fashioned belief that furniture has to be against a wall. Bring that furniture into the center of the room and go ahead and allow the back of the furniture to be seen. Simply make sure that there is enough room for people to walk around comfortably and anything goes.
- Place area rugs around the areas you designate for seating. It is better that the rugs are too big as opposed to being too small. The rule of thumb for size is that, at the minimum, the front legs of couches or love seats are on the rug. Ideally, all legs should be on the rug but just the front legs are acceptable. Other items such as end tables or chairs need to be completely on the rug.
Feel free to try different things in your living room. Sketch your plans out on a piece of paper and make sure that you remember to measure everything to make sure it will fit. Following sound interior design advice will leave you pleased with the results or outcome of any project you embark on.
